Port Andratx

Port Andratx sits at the western tip of the island, about thirty five minutes from Palma. A working fishing harbour that became one of Mallorca's most expensive addresses, with villas set into the hillsides above the water and a harbour front that fills up every evening as the sun goes down.

About Port Andratx

The harbour front

The port is the whole point of the place. A natural inlet with fishing boats at one end and yachts at the other, and a promenade running round the water lined with restaurants and bars.

Sitting out there with a drink as the sun drops behind the headland is one of the genuine pleasures of the island, and it is why people who could afford to be anywhere in Mallorca choose to be here. The fishing fleet still works out of the harbour, which keeps it feeling like a real place rather than a resort built for visitors.

One of the island's premium addresses

Port Andratx is at the top end of the Mallorcan market. The hillsides around the bay are covered in large villas, many of them contemporary, most of them positioned for the view down over the water, and prices here are among the highest anywhere on the island.

It draws a wealthy and very international crowd, and has done for years. What it has never developed is any flashiness about it. The atmosphere around the harbour is relaxed and understated, and the money stays fairly quiet.

Where it sits

Port Andratx is at the far western end of the southwest coast, so it is further from Palma than the resorts nearer the city, around thirty five minutes on the motorway. In return you get the most dramatic stretch of coastline in the region, with the Tramuntana rising behind and the road up to Sant Elm and Sa Dragonera nearby.

The town of Andratx, a proper Mallorcan market town with a Wednesday market, sits a few minutes inland.

The kind of homes here

Port Andratx has the widest and deepest property market of anywhere on this coast. Apartments and penthouses make up a large part of it, but there is a substantial supply of houses, a strong villa market, and the occasional finca inland.

If you are looking for a villa with a view, this is one of the best places on the island to be looking. It is also where the top of the market sits, so expect prices to reflect that.

Who it suits

Buyers looking at the top of the market who want a view, privacy and a setting that is hard to match anywhere else on the island, and who are happy to be half an hour from Palma rather than ten minutes.
